Friday night the “Cocky Country” girls headed south to Auburn to see two super talented up-and-coming artists hit the stage at Bourbon St.

Before the show we got the opportunity to sit down with both artists to discuss how they got started in this career, what their future in the music industry will hold, and their new music they plan on releasing. To hear the interviews be sure to tune in to “Cocky Country” on WLJS 91.9 Monday night from 7-9 Central time! (I’ll be sure to give y’all a direct link then).

First up, we sat down with Jacob Davis and his bass player, Teddy Christenberry, at their hotel lobby. We started the guys out with a series of ‘this or that’ questions that ranged from skittles or m&m’s to Carrie Underwood or Miranda Lambert. After that we moved on to music questions. During the interview he shared with us what song he recently wrote that has him fired up and after several back-and-forths with debating on if he was allowed to tell us he said the name is, “Love Got Me Like.” So be sure to keep your eyes peeled for that. The best piece of advice he’s ever received came to him from his dad and his coach through the quote, “It’s not the size of the dog in the fight; it’s the size of the fight in the dog.” The final question he answered for us was what he would want someone who knew nothing about him to walk away from this interview knowing. To answer that question he pulled a Peyton Manning and said, “I want people to think that I’m a good guy.”

If you know nothing about who Jacob Davis is I highly recommend you listen to his music and listen to this interview to get to know him soon! I have a feeling he is going to be the next guy to break into the music industry in full force! Not only is he super talented musically, he is a super sweet guy. I might’ve been hooked before the interview just on his music, but after the interview I was hooked on every aspect!

I gotta say a big thank you to the squad for sending me Jacob’s cd and to Erica for helping point me in the right direction of being able to set up this interview! Also gotta thank Teddy for arranging everything! THANK YOU! ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you, Jacob, for the interview!

Next up, we went to Cole Taylor’s hotel and interviewed him a strange place, the fitness center. If there’s anything I’ve learned about this industry it’s that sometimes you just gotta make it work! As y’all know Cole is one of my favorite guys so I was super pumped and totally freaked when he agreed to this interview! We started out the interview the same way with ‘this or that’ questions ranging from truth or dare to beer or liquor. After those icebreakers we moved on to music questions like which song he would pick out for a potential new fan to listen to. To that question he replied with picking “Lights Go Down” from his upcoming EP,ย Step 2.ย He also mentioned in a later question that “Lights Go Down” has the potential to be his next single! We will know by this Friday, February 26th, which song gets picked as his new single! The best piece of advice from him got handed down to him by Cole Swindell which got handed down to him by Luke Bryan which is simply “make your own story and live it out.” He wants people to know that he is a “normal dude that is getting to live his dream out.”

Be sure to check out his upcoming EP,ย Step 2, that will be released on the 26th! Cole gave us a copy and it is super amazing!

After the interviews, we headed back down the street to Bourbon St. Bar to see the guys hit the stage!

Jacob Davis

Jacob and his band were first to hit the stage. They opened with one of my favorites, “Whiskeysippi.” From there they had the crowd hooked! I was super pumped when he sang my second fave, (my first being “I Bet You Won’t”) “Letter Jacket.”

He sang two cover songs, “We are Tonight,” by Billy Currington and “Red” by Taylor Swift to get crowd members unfamiliar with his music a chance to get involved.

He closed the night out with a song he mentioned in his interview with us that gets the most crowd participation, “Get Down.”

Overall, I give JD and his band an A+. We had such a fun night and these guys are SUPER talented… GO SEE THEM ๐Ÿ™‚

Cole Taylorย

I’ve seen Cole four times previous to this show and every time he pours so much energy into each performance, and this time was no different! Cole opened the show with a song off his upcoming EP, “Back In The Game.”

He mixed new songs and old songs throughout the night playing songs from his most recent EP,ย Cole Taylor,ย with “See You Around,” “Break That Lonely,” and my fave, “Boom.” I got a video of that one, but I was jamming wayyyy too much for y’all to need to see! ๐Ÿ™‚ The new songs he played from his upcoming EP,ย Step 2,ย included “Side to Side” and “Lights Go Down.”

Cole also sang the three songs he cowrote for other artists, two of which went number one, “Look At My Truck” by Chase Rice, “Home Alone Tonight” by Luke Bryan (#1) and “Sippin’ on Fire” by Florida Georgia Line (#1).

Cole closed the night out with his first single released to Sirius radio, “Drop Top.” ***and my friends finally got to hear the song that I’d been walking around singing all week*** ๐Ÿ™‚

Cole, you did amazing even though the crowd was a rowdy mess! I can’t wait to see you and the guys some time again super soon! ๐Ÿ™‚

After the show we got the chance to chat with Cole again and a few of his band members. These guys are the reason I love up-and-coming artists! So humble and kind and talented!

Shoutout to Aaron for always remembering my crazy self! ๐Ÿ™‚ He’s the best!
